Competitive Landscape

Competitive Landscape maps who is winning a search market across several competitors. You get the market leaders, the content themes that work for them, their keyword coverage and backlinks, and the gaps you could go after.

For a deep look at one competitor, use Competitor Analysis.

Before you start

What it does

  1. Builds a set of 5 to 10 queries of mixed intent.
  2. Checks them with get_keyword_metrics and finds the domains competing for them with find_serp_competitors.
  3. For local markets, adds search_local_businesses and get_local_serp_results.
  4. Pulls live Google results with get_serp_results, up to 10 queries per call.
  5. Groups the recurring domains as direct competitors, publishers, marketplaces, communities or documentation.
  6. Runs get_domain_overview on the top three to five.
  7. Pulls their ranking keywords with get_ranked_keywords, and their backlinks with get_backlinks_overview where relevant, then writes up what it found.
