SEO Project Setup

SEO Project Setup interviews you once and stores your site scope, goals, positioning, competitors, key pages and writing preferences in the project's shared context. Every other skill reads that context, and you can see it on the Context page in the app. It also checks the MCP connection and helps you connect Search Console. It's setup, not an audit.

What it does

  1. Checks the connection with whoami and list_projects, and offers to create a project if none matches. It doesn't run research tools just to test the connection.
  2. Reads your current context with get_project_context and confirms what's already there.
  3. Records your website scope in the Business overview.
  4. Records your goals, with a metric and a timeframe, in the Current goal.
  5. Records your positioning and writing preferences.
  6. Adds your competitors. If you're unsure who they are, it can look them up with find_serp_competitors, which spends credits; it confirms the results with you and logs the spend.
  7. Adds 10 to 30 key pages, each with a role: hub, spoke, money or other.
  8. Helps you connect Search Console on the project's Integrations page, with a CSV export as the fallback.
  9. Recommends one workflow to run first.

It saves with update_project_context in batches as the interview goes, keeping each section to about 4,000 characters of prose. Saving needs a connection with Make changes on.

Connect Search Console

The skill doesn't say Search Console is connected unless get_search_console_performance confirms it. When it isn't connected, that tool returns "Search Console is not connected for this project." with a link to connect it.

  1. In your project, open Project settings from the project switcher or the Dashboard.
  2. Open the Integrations tab.
  3. Connect Search Console.

See Google Search Console for the details.

What you get

No report is saved. In chat, you get a checklist table (Step, Status, Notes, Next action) and a summary of the project status, sites, goals, positioning, competitors, key pages, Search Console status, missing sections and the recommended next workflow.

What it saved is on the Context page (AI Tools → Context), under Business overview, Current goal, Positioning and Writing preferences, with your competitors and key pages. A project holds up to 100 competitors and 100 key pages.

What it costs

The connection checks, project tools, context tools and Search Console reads are free. Only a competitor lookup with find_serp_competitors spends credits.

Tools it uses

whoami, list_projects, create_project, get_project_context, update_project_context, find_serp_competitors and get_search_console_performance.
